Sir Alex Ferguson has told Wayne Rooney to go away and get his head straight after confirming he had asked to leave Manchester United.
Ferguson claimed the 27-year-old England striker had asked to be left out of yesterday’s game against Swansea because his head wasn’t right.
Confirming Rooney’s desire to leave, Ferguson said: “We’ve refused it. I think he should go away and think about it again.
“He wasn’t happy about being brought off in games this season. But Wayne Rooney in top form wouldn’t be taken off.”
Asked whether Rooney, booed by sections of the fans when he collected his winners’ medal, would be staying at United under incoming boss David Moyes, Ferguson said: “It’s not my decision now.”
Rooney watched United’s win from an executive box at Old Trafford, before joining his team-mates for the Premier League trophy presentation.
Ferguson congratulated each member of his squad as they collected their medals, but the embrace between him and Rooney was a cursory one.

The outgoing United boss said: “I don’t think Wayne was keen to play today, simply because he’s asked for a transfer.
“I think he wants to think it through in his mind and I think that’s a good idea.
“But we’re not going to let him go. I just think he’s a maybe bit frustrated about being taken off once or twice in the last few weeks.”
Ferguson added: “It’s better that Wayne is left out at the moment. He’s asked for a transfer, we refused it and that’s where it lies.
“It was better he didn’t play, he can think it over, mull it over. He’s not happy. He’s been taken off a few times but Wayne in top form would not be taken off. He should think about his future here, because it will be here.”
Rooney has two years left on his contract, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich ready to bid for him should he push through with his bid to leave. SOURCE: MIRRORFOOTBALL
